"Il faut être positif."

So I'm going to spare you the overwrought connect-the-dots of all the ways this story seemed relevant, and simply share it with you and say that it struck a chord.

We went out for dinner tonight with the friends who are here in Burgundy with us for the weekend. We went to a Japanese place, Bissoh, that one of the winemakers we visited yesterday had recommended. When we arrived, the woman seating us said that she wanted to put us on the terrace, but that it was maybe going to rain. We said that we'd start outside, and if it rained, we could come in. It was a very pretty outdoor space, with little stones on the ground and a pleasant overall ambience. Soon after, as we were ordering, we felt a couple of drops. We discussed with our server the possibility of heading inside, and whether or not it was going to continue, get heavier, etc. A guy at the next table, already well into the second bottle of expensive wine that his party was enjoying, said everything would be fine. "Il faut être positif," he assured us. You have to be positive. And so we were. It sprinkled a little while longer, and then dried up. A few minutes later it started up again, lightly, and then stopped. And that was it. No need to run for cover or shelter ourselves from the beautiful evening. And everyone carried healthy babies to term. The End.
